The river Thames is one of the worlds most famous and well know rivers all over the world. It is 215 miles (346km) long and runs through the centre of England’s capital, London.

As the river runs straight through the centre of London it provides a great transport avenue for the city. There are 104 bridges in total with 29 over the tidal part of the river and 75 bridges across the non-tidal part of the river, for land users the river has to have vast amounts of bridges to cross the river at certain points.

Due to the size of the river its flood plain is also a massive 896 km2. Due to the damage the river could do if it flooded there are 47 locks to control the flow of the river. As a result you can only travel down 191 miles of the river and only certain parts are able to cope with commercial and Thames party boats.
